Head of Media
What is your role at Hunterlodge?
I’m Head of Media. It’s my role to oversee the running of our Media team, across planning, buying, implementation & optimisation.
Where are you from originally?
I’m Hertfordshire born & bred. I grew up in Cockfosters (usually known from being the start of the Piccadilly underground line).
So why advertising?
Early in my career, I worked as a Marketing Analyst at Camelot, operators of the National Lottery. I became really interested in the media campaigns and found a new passion for analysing their performance. As soon as I started getting more involved with their media agency, I knew it was where I wanted to focus on for my future career. Working for a full-service independent agency such as Hunterlodge gives the perfect blend of combining creativity with data. The reason I love advertising and media so much is because you’re always learning something new. The industry is so fast-paced and always evolving & innovating, whether it’s new technology, new digital abilities or an original creative approach.
What’s your favourite advert ever and why?
With this question, ‘all good things come to those that wait’. It has to be the iconic Guinness ads, for pure cinematic beauty…..and I’m also partial to a pint of the black stuff (or ‘dark ruby red’ stuff, as you’re soon told when visiting the brewery in Dublin). The Guinness White Horses ad always features in most top ten lists, but I loved The Swimmer. Dancing Man is another classic. Over the last few years, I also have to admit to being swept up in the annual John Lewis Christmas Ad excitement.
With such a strong focus on effectiveness at Hunterlodge, why does effectiveness matter so much to you?
In my younger years at school, I always preferred maths to most other subjects. I loved the fact that an answer was correct or incorrect, no subjectivity. So with media, ensuring a campaign’s performance is measurable and being able to prove how effective a campaign has performed is much the same. As an agency, we’re in the job of ensuring our clients are successful and their advertising campaigns return the best possible results, whether it’s increasing brand appeal or generating increased business and profit. The end goal and overall objective of any investment should always be our main focus.
Nothing can beat a quality steak and I think of myself as a bit of a burger connoisseur. But I’ve also got a real sweet tooth and a bit of a chocoholic. Restaurant dessert menus are my weakness, especially if there’s a cheesecake, or better still a banoffee pie.
Favourite thing to do with your spare time?
Spending quality time with my family & two daughters. Outdoors lifestyle – walking & cycling. Watching & playing football.
Tell us something we might not know about you?
My nickname is Grossy. I’m an Arsenal season ticket holder. I’ve never been to a Nando’s!
How about a random fact about you or something you find interesting?
I’ve had a round of applause from Wimbledon Centre Court and a telling off from the umpire. (I caught a ball during a Tim Henman match and unwittingly tried to keep the ball).
How would your friends describe you?
Honest, trustworthy, genuine, dependable, supportive, generous, calm, witty (if ‘dad-jokes’ count).
What’s your favourite quote?
“Great things in business are never done by one person. They’re achieved by a team of people”, Steve Jobs & “May the force be with you”, Obe One Kenobi
What’s your life motto?
"Keep your eyes on the stars and your feet on the ground.", Theodore Roosevelt & ‘Victoria Concordia Crescit’ (‘Victory through harmony’), Arsenal FC
