At Hunterlodge, we like to start at the end. With results. It is this red thread of effectiveness and a dedication to results that drives the way in which we work and runs through everything we do.
We are a unique breed of agency that has an incredible arsenal of people with amazing skills, knowledge and experience, driven by a purpose - to make effective advertising accessible to all clients. We breed success junkies who live for the thrill of advertising, have an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and thrive on a culture that refuses to lose!
So who are these obsessive success junkies? In a series of interviews, we talk to the Directors driving effectiveness through the heart of Hunterlodge.
First up is Rob Hunter, Managing Director and Founder of Hunterlodge Advertising. Having been on a coffee hiatus for the last week, Rob was more than happy to have half an hour out to answer a few questions about what makes him tick.
What is your role at Hunterlodge?
I'm the Founder and Managing Director of Hunterlodge. I started Hunterlodge when I was 21. It was originally set up as a design/print marketing agency and has shifted over the years into a fully integrated advertising agency.
And what projects are you currently involved in?
Besides looking after the day to day running of the business I'm working with the team on Volkswagen Financial Services. I look after the CPD, quality, efficiency and profitability of the company and after agreement from the council, I'm working on the roof garden just in time for winter!
Where are you from originally?
According to the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy - I'm from the centre of the Universe, a lovely town called Rickmansworth which is handy as it's also home to Hunterlodge.
So why advertising?
I love it - it gets me up in the morning and no two days are ever alike.
With such a strong focus on effectiveness at Hunterlodge, why does effectiveness matter so much to you?
I don't believe that anyone should be allowed to work in our sector unless this is at the very forefront of everything they do. Effectiveness is why we are employed. I believe that if we prove beyond a doubt that we are the most effective agency in the UK, we will create a highly sustainable company and one that our clients love working with.
Some favourites now - favourite food?
Am I allowed to say KFC? My wife would kill me if she heard that. It's definitely my guilty pleasure!
British racing green (the colour of my first E-Type - shame it was only a Scaletrix version).
Favourite project you've worked on here at Hunterlodge?
Cat's Protection re-homing TV ad - not that I worked on it much - I just loved it and I'm proud of the team, how the ad turned out and the results we got from it.
Favourite thing to do with your spare time?
Cycling and drinking beer. Not at the same time but only because it's too difficult.
Tell us something we might not know about you.
I get heart palpitations; I'm colour blind and I've just cycled 40k in one hour. I always wanted to be a ranger when I was younger, but when in the Air Training Corps I decided being a pilot was in my future, shame this dream got shot down when they found out I was colour blind! I also love the sea and all three of my kids have middle names associated with it. On top of this, I'm commercially qualified as a Yacht master.
How about a random fact you find interesting?
My Great Granddad was called August Jaeger and he changed his surname to Hunter just before WW1. Elgar wrote one of the Enigma variations for him called Nimrod - which means the great hunter/god of hunting. Nimrod is the famous piece of music played every year on Remembrance Day.
